Effective April 3, 2026
What Color Is This? identifies colors from your camera or photos and matches them against a database of 30,000 named colors. It also provides color harmonies and colorblind-accessible palettes.
This app does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Period.
The app accesses your camera and photos only to sample colors. Images are processed locally in your browser. No images are uploaded to any server — color matching is done by sending only the sampled hex value (e.g., #3A7BC8) to the color matching API.
Colors you save are stored in your browser's localStorage on your device. They never leave your device unless you explicitly export them. The app has no user accounts, no cloud sync, and no server-side storage of user data.
The web version uses GoatCounter, a privacy-focused analytics tool that does not use cookies, does not track individuals, and does not collect personal information. The Android app does not include any analytics.
The app communicates only with its own API server for color matching. No data is sent to any third-party services, advertising networks, or data brokers.
This app does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children.
